We all know that our mouths need a lot of care and attention in order to stay healthy. They also need a certain amount of various vitamins too. If you want to foster a healthy “ecosystem” in your mouth, there’s one vitamin you might want to boost in your diet and that’s vitamin C.

As biological and holistic dentists in Wilmington, we use vitamins as part of our treatment plans for patients of all ages every day. We understand how important they are. We want you to feel the same.

What can Vitamin C do for My Smile?

We recommend vitamin C to our patients for numerous reasons. One of the biggest benefits it brings to your oral health is that it can strengthen your gums and the soft tissue in your mouth. We’ve treated patients of all ages who had trouble with bleeding gums and gum health. They just couldn’t find relief from bleeding no matter how healthy their gums actually were. Vitamin C was able to help get things under control.

What’s great about using vitamin C to boost gum health is that it’s a pretty inexpensive way to help heal your smile without the need for deep cleanings, surgery, or unnecessary antibiotic usage. It can even prevent your teeth from becoming loose or falling out. Vitamin C can be a real lifesaver for someone who’s struggling with gum disease or deficiencies.

How Do I Get More Vitamin C in My Diet?

If necessary, we might recommend that a patient take 500-1000 mg vitamin C in a food-based or organic form. Most supplements are available at your local health food store.

There’s another way you can get your smile boosting vitamin C too and that’s by eating the right foods and maintaining a healthy diet. Vitamin C is generally found to occur naturally in potatoes and leafy green vegetables. However, we all know that the biggest source of naturally-occurring vitamin C is found in all citrus fruits.

Do you have more questions about how vitamins can boost your oral health? Don’t hesitate to talk to your biological and holistic family dentist in Wilmington about it. We can help decide what’s best for your oral and overall health.
